About this job

The main purpose of this role is to ensure the successful co-ordination and delivery of multiple projects within an assigned programme, ensuring the alignment of project work to the overall programme and business objectivesReporting to the Head of the Strategic Project Office, the incumbent will be responsible for a team of Project Managers working within the assigned programme. Our client’s project office is a Business Project Office as opposed to an IT Project Office and as such their main projects will focus on creating completely new business streams, new system capabilities and new product offers. Consequently extensive experience will be required in this area.

Key Competencies

Qualifications and Experience

·       A relevant and applicable Bachelors’ Degree or higher

·       Project Management Certification

·       Business Analysis Diploma – advantageous

·       Exposure to the financial services industry

·       A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Senior Project Manager with a proven track record of delivering large, complex projects 


·       Broad knowledge of business and financial products

·       Knowledge and thorough understanding of best practice project management methodologies

·       A practical understanding of the system development lifecycle and product life cycle

·       Understanding of ICT functional areas such as development, infrastructure and service management



·       Presentation and facilitation skills - ability to present ideas and options to a group and drive decision making as well as understand information in the context of the meeting/workshop

·       Sound organisational skills with strong documentation and reporting abilities

·       Advanced communication skills and good negotiation skills

·       Advanced computer skills (Microsoft- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Office, Visio)

·       Ability to manage expectations, risk and issues in a pro-active manner

·       Systematic and integrated thinking

·       Analytical and conceptual ability

·       Ability to assimilate new information (both technical and process) to understand the project requirement

·       Strong ability to manage internal and external stakeholders

·       Ability to adapt easily to changing circumstances

·       Ability to work on multiple complex projects concurrently and deliver under pressure

 Key Responsibilities

·         Co-ordinate project activity and manage performance across assigned programme
·         Plan and allocate work across assigned programme, ensuring projects are delivered according to schedule and within budget
·         Support Project Managers, Business Analysts and Business Sponsors in defining sound and compelling business cases
·         Responsible for programme communications, ensuring continuous alignment of business stakeholders and relevant work streams

·         Responsible for Business Transition Management to ensure that any business change as a result of the projects within the programme is managed effectively

·         Responsible for overall programme governance, ensuring all projects within assigned programme are delivered in line with the Strategic Project Office methodology and compliant with Group standards

·         Provide best practice insights, and contribute to ensuring that the Strategic Project Office methodology is constantly enhanced and utilised

·         Lead team to ensure optimal performance, engagement and succession

·         Manage own portfolio of projects within the programme and take responsibility for the delivery of the full project scope following the Strategic Project Office methodology
